Let’s be honest: “just put yourself out there” is the most useless dating advice ever given.
Out where? At the grocery store, hoping someone reaches for the same avocado? While Salt Lake City is the heart of the Wasatch Front dating scene, finding real connections doesn’t stop at the county line. Whether you’re living in downtown SLC, commuting from Utah County, or hanging out up in Weber County, there are genuine places where people are already showing up.
Below are ten specific, real places and communities where singles in Salt Lake City (and nearby Wasatch Front favorites) can meet people in real life.
1. Kickball, Dodgeball, or Cornhole with Beehive Sport & Social Club
If you haven’t played kickball since third grade, that’s exactly the point. Beehive Sport & Social Club runs adult coed leagues across the valley in kickball, dodgeball, softball, sand volleyball, cornhole, and more, with games that consistently spill over into post-game drinks at a nearby bar.
You can join solo and get placed with a team, so you don’t need a built-in friend group to walk in with. It’s low-stakes, ridiculously fun, and genuinely one of the easiest ways to meet a rotating cast of new people every week for two months straight.
2. Pickleball with Silly Pickles
Pickleball is having a real moment in SLC, and Silly Pickles has built an entire league format around it being social first, competitive second.
You play in a ladder format, rotating partners every round, so you’re never stuck playing the same two people all night, and you can absolutely show up without a partner. It’s a rare activity where “I don’t really know anyone here” is the default, not the exception.
3. Bouldering at Momentum (Trolley Square, Millcreek, or Lehi)
Rock climbing is one of the few workouts where talking to strangers is basically built into the sport. At Momentum’s bouldering-only Trolley Square gym downtown, the massive Millcreek location, or down south in Lehi, you’ll spend as much time chatting with the person attempting the same route as you do actually climbing.
No partner or rope skills required for bouldering, which makes it one of the lowest-barrier ways to strike up a conversation with someone new mid-workout.
4. Saturday Mornings at the Farmers Market
The Downtown Farmers Market at Pioneer Park (350 W 300 S) runs Saturdays from June through October, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a winter version at The Gateway from November through April.
Wasatch Front Pro-Tip: If you’re based in or near Weber County, Farmers Market Ogden on Historic 25th Street is hands-down one of the best Saturday market scenes in northern Utah.
Thousands of people wander through weekly for produce, coffee, and live music, which makes it one of the easiest low-pressure places to strike up a conversation. Grab a coffee, take your time at the stalls, and let the crowd do some of the work; the format practically invites small talk.
5. A Weeknight Run Club
SLC’s run club scene has exploded, from the long-running Salt Lake City Running Club (group runs Monday and Wednesday evenings, all abilities welcome) to newer weekly meetups hosted at spots like Cozy Coffee Lounge. Most wrap up with coffee, stretching, or a happy hour, so the run itself is really just the icebreaker.
It’s an especially good option if you want to meet people around fitness and outdoor life without the meat-market energy of a bar.
6. Trivia Night at Bewilder Brewing Co.
Every Wednesday at 7 p.m., Bewilder Brewing Co. in the Granary District hosts pub trivia through Game Night Live, and it’s a genuinely great excuse to end up on a team with strangers.
Show up solo and most hosts will fold you into an existing team that needs players.
It’s low-pressure, conversation flows naturally between rounds, and you get an instant read on someone’s personality by round three.
7. A Volunteer Shift with Wasatch Community Gardens
Not every place to meet someone needs to double as a “scene.” Wasatch Community Gardens in Salt Lake City regularly welcomes volunteers for garden days, plant sales, and workshops at its main campus on 800 South.
You’ll spend a few hours doing something genuinely useful alongside other people who care about the same things you do, which tends to filter for exactly the kind of person worth getting to know.
8. A Pottery or Cooking Class
Nothing forces real conversation quite like standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a stranger while you’re both failing to center clay on a wheel.
Local studios around SLC, Sugar House, and neighboring valleys regularly run beginner pottery, cooking, and craft classes designed for walk-ins and first-timers. Unlike a bar, everyone in the room has already agreed to look a little silly, which tends to lower the guard faster than any small talk could.
9. A Storm-Day Ski Bus to Alta or Snowbird
Utah’s canyons are one of the city’s biggest built-in advantages for meeting people, and you don’t need your own car to use them.
UTA’s ski bus routes run straight from downtown and Sugar House up to Alta and Snowbird all winter, and the lift line, the shuttle, and the lodge afterward are all natural places to end up chatting with someone new.
It’s an entire day of shared, low-pressure experience, which tends to produce better conversation than a 20-minute coffee date ever could.
10. At Singles Mingle Events
Saving the best for last.
While every option we’ve mentioned absolutely works, they all share one major hurdle: figuring out whether that interesting person across the room is actually available.
That’s exactly what makes us different. At our events, 100% of the crowd is single.
That’s the entire idea behind Have You Met? Events. We build mixers, game nights, hikes, and our flagship Have We Met? Live convention specifically for singles who are done swiping and ready to connect face-to-face. No profiles, no awkward guessing games, and no wondering if they’re already taken. Just good people, in a great room, meeting the old-fashioned way.
Put Down the Phone, Pick Your Next Move
At the end of the day, the app was never the issue. It was always just a placeholder for the thing you actually want: a genuine connection with a real person. Salt Lake City is bursting with those opportunities, but you have to trade the comfort of your couch for the courts, the market, or the lift line.
Put the phone down, pick one thing off this list, and put yourself out there. The rest has a funny way of taking care of itself.
Check out our upcoming single mingle events and come find out who you’ve been missing.
